For more than 50 years, the Corvette has stood tall as an American performance Icon. Along the way, the Corvette has garnered an immense enthusiast following and has attained the title of America's favorite sports car. In fact the Corvette was America's first "true" sports car.
Given my aforementioned statements, it is fitting that a celebration be held for such a piece of American ingenuity and General Motors decided to do just that in June of 2003! This show was designated the official Corvette 50th Anniversary Celebration and had over 10,000 Corvettes and their owners in attendance. Starting with a caravan cruise from Bowling Green, KY, a tumultuous parade of proud Vette owners made their way to the Coliseum located in the "Music City" - Nashville, TN. Once the caravan arrived at the Coliseum, on Friday morning, the concourses opened to all sorts of events for all ages, such as restoration clinics, and engineering and design seminars. Friday evening concluded with a parade of Vettes from the Coliseum to downtown Nashville.
The festive first day also ended with the Chevy Rockin' on the Riverfront Concert. Saturday morning, the clinics and seminars started promptly at 9 a.m. after a caravan of Vettes made its way back to the Coliseum. As the day ended, the party sure didn't! After a final special Chevrolet presentation, the ZZ Top crew rocked the Coliseum into the late night hours.
This was a once in a lifetime event covering five generations of the Corvette. As time progresses the body styles may change, but one thing that will remain the same are the hard core Corvette enthusiasts! |
