While covering Hot Summer Nights this past June in Cookeville, Tennessee, I happened to run across the 1993 Honda Civic you see pictured here. This particular Civic really caught my eye, so I stopped for a moment and talked to the owner. The owner was modest, but his ride tells a different story. The owner, Kyle Flatt, had a plan for how he wanted his ride to look. Most of all he wanted a nice clean ride that would scream custom. Well, we say mission accomplished!
The first part of Kyle's plan was that of a few body mods. This includes the installation of a Black Widow front bumper and side skirts, Buddy Club rear bumper, and a ram styled air hood with a three inch rise. The taillights were shaved and a set of street rod tear drop taillights were molded into place. To make this Civic stand out like a sore thumb, Kyle opted to go with a three toned paint scheme of white, blue, and gray.
After the paint dried and was wet sanded and smoothed to perfection, Kyle decided to work on the suspension. Kyle wanted it to be low, but more importantly, he wanted it to be adjustable. Kyle opted to go with a full Air Ride suspension setup. Instant up and down motion is achieved with a custom built belt driven air compressor with 3/8 SMC valves mounted above the cylinders. The system can build up 250psi in about 30 seconds so the system is pretty fast!
Speaking of fast, Kyle increased the performance of the engine by replacing certain parts of it. To help the engine breathe easier, the stock air filter was swapped with a custom built cold air intake system and the stock headers were scrapped for a set of HP Racing headers. Completing the engine modifications includes a fuel pressure regulator and an aluminum radiator.
On the inside everything was covered in blue tweed. An LCD screen is molded in the dash. A 2000 model center console was painted to match the exterior and has a Pioneer in dash CD/DVD/TV player installed which spins tunes to two 12 inch Audiobahn subs which are powered with an American Bass amplifier. Not one to be easily entertained by music and DVDs alone, Kyle also installed a Sony Playstation 2 in the glove compartment. Finishing off the interior modifications, Kyle swapped the stock gauges with Indiglo gauges.
To complete "the look", rolling stock consists of Enkie 18 inch wheels in a silver finish with Kumho rubber providing the traction.
With a cool "rod styled" paint scheme and a killer stance, Kyle's Civic is truly sic!
