New Metal or Old Metal?

Customize the old stuff or the brand new stuff? Decisions, decisions, decisions...
By Kevin Hertzog, Staff Writer

In the customizing scene, there are hundreds of way to make your rides appearance stand out, make the engine pump out more horsepower, tons of suspension mod's to make your ride kiss the ground or breath the fresh cloudy air, to thumping stereo's with enough amps. to make you go deaf in a few seconds, there's the wonderful and beautiful wheel and rim options out there, and let's not forget the intense paint jobs you can spray on those sheets of metal!

But the first question you have to ask yourself before you pickup any car/truck catalog is " what vehicle shall I make into my show vehicle or project vehicle?" " Should I go to the junkyard and look for a beat up piece of metal and make it into something, or should I take a stroll and pickup the newest truck or car in the market...?" That's the biggest question that has to answered first...Once that choice is made time to get your hand dirty..

For example let's say you purchase an '90's model Cavalier, or Honda... There's several body mod's available for those types of cars. Custom body kits, ground effects packages, spoilers, and custom racing hoods are just to name a few items you could bolt onto those types of cars to grab attention on the field or on the road from passing motorists. Or if you wanted to stick with something simple for those types of cars, you can easily buy and bolt on a new custom exhaust system or slap on some chrome rims wrapped in lowprofile rubber.

If cars aren't your first choice, let's not forget the dozens of truck's out there just waiting to be hooked up! You can by a cool lift kit and raise that truck higher then hell in the air, or you could buy and install a drop kit and lay that truck's frame right on the asphalt. Or spray on a new coat of paint and add some cool decals for just simple things to do to a truck.

The idea's are endless of what you can do to any type of vehicle no matter what the year is on that sticker. Just depends on what type of vehicle and the year that you chose to purchase and modify. It also depends on do you wish to win trophy's on the show field, or do you want to modify your ride to drive to work everyday. Or are you type of person that will modify a car or truck and leave it in the garage for just those sunny days to let her lose... All these factors in modifying rides should run through your head before you pick up that wrench and start dismantling your project ride or your show ride to be...

Until next time... keep on Kruisin'!
