Ta-Low By J.R. Janicek

Roger Damron of Ashcamp, Kentucky, set out to show his fellow enthusiasts how well he detailed his '99 Chevy Tahoe, by doing more than simply washing and waxing it. An avid audiophile, Roger set his priorities on installing a custom audio/video system in this killer "hoe". An Alpine in-dash receiver and an Alpine EQ processor controls all of the tunes sent to four kicker 12-inch subs in a custom box in the rear and the three 10-inch Audiobahn subs that are inverted in the center console. Rockford Fosgate amps are mounted to the rear custom sub enclosure and power the subs and the various mids and highs mounted in the doors. A Power Acoustik DVD player and 7-inch monitor rounds out the audio system. The entire SUV has been essentially turned into a large speaker enclosure that literally rocks!

Roger is well aware that an awesome audio system in an ugly vehicle won't win any favor with enthusiasts, spectators, and judges at shows. Thus, he also added lots of details to the Tahoe's suspension and appearance. The ride has to be low, so the factory suspension system was upgraded to include an Air Ride dynamic suspension system installed by Jody Hall at the Drop Shop in Pikeville, Kentucky. The air springs are installed at all four corners of the truck and allow it to be lowered to the ground with a flick of a switch. Therefore, we have named it "Ta-Low".

The body was treated to Street Scene ground effects and a Sir Michaels molded-in roll pan. The remaining body trim were shaved for a cleaner appearance, while the rear taillights were swapped out for a set of Euro-styled units. A Fast Coast Customs ram air hood was installed along with a cat eye grille shell with billet grille insert, Chevy Avalanche headlights, clear corner lenses, billet antenna, billet fuel door, and a custom bumper cover with billet grille insert. Once all parts were fitted correctly, Roger had his Tahoe painted a two-tone black on silver with a purple flame dividing up the two colors. Finishing off the exterior appearance are 20-inch chrome rollers.

Under the hood, the 350ci Vortec has been beautified with polished aluminum pieces. In the performance department, Roger installed an Airaid throttle body spacer and a custom cold air intake.

The interior color was completely changed by sanding off the texture on the vinyl and painting the dash and various side panels to match the exterior hues. A custom billet steering wheel also enhances the dash, as do various carbon fiber and billet dash accessories. The seat covers are custom stitched Katzkin leather that also incorporates exterior colors, making the seating arrangements perfect for enjoying the Hoe's audio and video displays.

We dig Roger's Tahoe, and this is one of the nicest we've come across. From the clean audio and interior work to the stylish hues that adorn the smooth bodywork, Roger has put together one cool custom ride. What's more, he's not afraid to drive it either. In fact, when we shot his truck he told us that he drove it in the rain to display it at the All GMC/Chevy Truck Nationals in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. Roger also drove it in the rain all the way back home on the following Sunday. now that is dedication to the custom scene!
