All-Up-N-It By J.R. Janicek

Indulge yourself for this is one kewl import! With oh-so-right custom combinations the owner, Mark Keels, has taught us that there is definitely more to a book than its cover. At first glance, one would simply state it is another Honda that has a body kit on it. That may be true for most Hondas, but this one is unlike the rest. For what you don't see, at least not right away, is what truly makes this car unique. So, let's begin.

While covering Southern Showdown VI on Saturday afternoon, I just happened to come across this beautiful silver, 2000 Honda Civic. This particular Honda really caught my eye, so I stopped and spoke with the owner for a while. The owner was modest, but his ride tells a different story. The whole thing is simple; Mark wanted a kewl custom import. Well, we say Mark's mission is accomplished especially when you check out the interior.

The first part of Mark's journey into custom auto land was that of a few body mods. This includes the installation of a Buddy Club body kit, Z3 fenders, and M3 mirrors. The stock tails were ditched and replaced with LED tails that were molded into the bumper. The stock headlamps also made their way to the scrap heap for they were replaced with a set of projector head lamps. To make this Civic flash like lightning, when it is barreling down the asphalt, Mark opted to go with a silver metallic with blue pearl paint. After the paint dried the body was wet sanded and smoothed to perfection. Topping off the exterior mods are blue under carriage neon lights.

The outside was good-to-go, but Mark saved the craziness for the inside which happens to be ESM's favorite thing about this ride. The entire stock interior received a healthy dose of custom fiberglass work which includes the trunk, backseat, door panels, dash, and headliner. The rear seat was removed and in its place is a fiberglass box that flows through to the trunk and houses a PS1, Sega Dreamcast, Pioneer DVD player, two Power Acoustic amps that power the two 15-inch Rockford Fosgate subs (in the trunk), and two 6.5-inch Alpine mids (in the doors) with 1-inch dome tweeters. Conducting all of the madness, Mark went with a Clarion CD/MP3 head unit and balancing out the tunes is a Clarion EQ. In the dash, the climate controls were moved to the glove box and a 5.6-inch LCD monitor was installed in its place for visual entertainment. The stock steering wheel and shifter were switched for more appealing gear and the seats were covered in two-tone blue/silver vinyl. Once everything was tightened and fitting as it should, the whole interior was painted light blue.

Under the hood, Mark updated the performance of the engine by replacing the stock air filter system with a cold air intake, MSD ignition, Denso spark plugs, B&K fuel pressure regulator, APC spark plug wires, and a Dynomax custom cat back exhaust. To earn those points on the show grounds, Mark powder coated the heat shield, valve cover, intake, and engine brackets to match the interior.

To complete "the look", APC coilovers were installed along with KYB lowering struts, Intrax camber kit, and APC front strut brace. Rolling stock consists of 17-inch chrome Motegi MR7 wheels.

Mark's ride is a kewl one to say the least and once you take a closer look it is obvious that custom is "All-Up-N-It."

Shout Out: "Thanks to Elite Streets Magazine for the feature!" -Mark
