Anytime you have someone in your household that is involved in the custom auto hobby, it is bound to rub off on other family members. Gayle Stewart a former ESM model and the wife of our good friend, J.J. Stewart, has picked up on the custom auto hobby and enjoys it as much as any guy we have ever seen in the scene. While J.J was courting his lovely wife to be, it was obvious she really liked custom cars which is a match made in heaven for J.J. Of course all of this is no coincidence because J.J. has owned some killer custom rides, you may have remembered his wild Honda Accord that we featured in the 2003 October-December issue of ESM, well he sold it (to our dismay and his, too) and then bought a tight Ford Focus, only to turn around and purchase a Chevy S-10 that is going to be a head turner for sure (it is certain to become a future ESM feature), but I digress.
The history of Gayle's 1995 Honda Accord is really one that points to a little female rivalry. Gayle has a few girlfriends who have some cool custom rides, so she knew J.J. could help to get her ride pointed in the right direction. Of course, being the man J.J. is, there was no way he was going to let his wife just girlie-girl the car and paint it Pepto-Bismol pink everywhere. Nope. That was not to be. Since Gayle now shares the Stewart family name and owns half of J.J.'s ass-ets (get the joke J.J.?), there was only one way to go... clean. No crazy over dosage of pink or anything that would scream "girl car" was going to be in your face nor obvious in this car. Afterall, J.J.'s two philosophies with cars is that there are two tastes: bad and good. Gayle agrees with those same philosophies, for the only thing that hints this car is even owned by a woman are the few interior pieces painted pink. With a pistol grip steering wheel, custom fiberglass door panels, carbon fiber racing seats, carbon fiber dash, custom center console, and a killer Sound Stream stereo system with the 7-inch in-dash DVD LCD console, it is obvious that our brother from another mother, J.J., has had an influence on his wife's taste. However, Gayle will remind you that she approved all mods because it is her car... hell, she was even in on all the dirty work and we have pictures to prove it, too!
On the exterior, Gayle decided she wanted the outside to be aggressive in appearance and therefore decided to keep the car jet black, but the body would receive a few upgrades. For starters, all body moldings were shaved for a nice sleek appearance. A Buddy Club II body kit was installed along with a Viper hood; Buddy Club wing, custom sport mirrors, and speed grille inserts. Finishing off the body mods are custom TYC head lamps and taillights. Rolling attire consists of 18-inch Diablo chrome wheels and a few rubber trees were sacrificed to provide the needed 225/40/R18 performance rubber that keeps Gayle on the road.
Under the hood, the valve cover was painted pink and a chrome strut bar was installed to reduce chassis flex. With the addition of a cold air intake system and a Bomz custom exhaust, this little Honda gives off a mean growl and releases all the engine producing fumes with ease. Custom pillar mounted pod gauges keeps the engine's performance information readily available to Gayle at all times.
Gayle's car is one cool ride. We dig the fact that she was actually involved in the modification of the car inside and out, which truly makes this car "Girl Modified."
Shout Out: "Special thanks to my husband, J.J., for all of his help and hard work... I love you baby!" -Gayle Stewart |
