South Carolina stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to the Blue Ridge Mountains, containing 31,113 square miles. The Palmetto State's more than four million citizens value its rich history, a legacy that is a prime factor in making tourism one of the state's largest industries. One such tourist attraction, especially if you are a custom auto owner, is the annual Southeast Showdown hosted by AcrophobiA, one of the largest custom auto clubs in the United States.
This year marks the fourth year for this growing event. The Anderson Fairgrounds, located in the city of Anderson (aka: The City of Hospitality), hosted 619 colorful and clean custom cruisers from domestic sport trucks to rat rods.
In addition to the show-n-shine event, the weekend also included a bikini show, burn out contest, draggin' contest, and various club games. Many vendors were on hand such as Allgoods, Tint Plus, Hot Rides Magazine, Drop 'Em Wear?, Custom Sound, Devious Designs, Drop Jaw Magazine, and yours truly... Elite Streets Magazine.
Awards consisted of $1,000 to the best debuting truck, best of show: mini-truck, fullsize truck, 4x4, import car, domestic car, classic/rod, chopper, and lowrider.
The spectators didn't start rolling in until 11:00, but the gate kept busy and by day's end 2,400 people had come to enjoy some sweet custom rides. Next year, let's put out the word and bust the belt loops and pack the fairgrounds with spectators because this is one of the finest shows around! |
