Blood Line By J.R. Janicek

Show-quality mini-trucks, owned by females, aren't exactly running rampant in the scene, since few mini-truck enthusiasts are women. Tania Sabousky, of Yorktown, Virginia, is a female mini-trucker who is breaking all the rules and helping to close the gap for she not only owns this cool 2001 Chevy S-10 you see here, but she also helped build it!

Tania originally rolled with a custom 2003 Toyota Celica, but started getting jealous of everyone dragging their trucks while she was driving around in an import. So, before long, Tania started to hint around to her husband Rob that she wanted to throw sparks, too-damn it!

Tania's truck originally started out as a daily driver with random bolt-on parts here and there, but after two months, four different GM trucks, and $20,000+ later, Tania would have one killer sled for the 2007 show season.

An interesting point to make about Tania's truck, beyond the fact that the majority of it was literally built by a woman, is that every part on the truck is from another GM vehicle, except for the motorcycle mirrors. Keeping the truck within its "blood line" made it very possible for Tania and her husband to get this rig rolling down the highway a lot sooner than later.

Since Tania's main motivation for building the truck was to have fun throwing sparks, she immediately went to work on the suspension setup. The S-10 was lowered by bolting up a pair of Belltech drop spindles and then lowered further by installing Firestone 2500 lb air bags with ½-inch air line running from a 7-gallon frame mounted air tank fed by a pair of ViAir 480 compressors. In the rear, a Thorbecke 3-link was installed along with another set of Firestone 2500 lb bags for maximum adjustability. When Tania hits the switch, the truck lays frame and tucks the 18/20-inch chrome Equus wheels with deliberate ease.

The body of the Sonoma looks smooth because the door handles, windshield squirts, antenna, mirrors, locks, fuel door, bed steps, and cab vents were all shaved. The tailgate area received an FBI California skin combo and a retractable license plate was molded into the bed rail. The fuel filler hatch was relocated to the inside of the bed, the bed seams were smoothed, and the corners of the bed were rounded off for a more custom look. The factory taillights of the truck have been shaved and a set of Caddy tails were grafted into place. The roof has been chopped "roadster style" and the glass was chopped down 4-inches to complete the radical look.

Other body modifications include a Sonoma grille shell, billet grille insert, HID lights, 2-inch cowl hood, chrome motorcycle side mirrors, smooth wiper cowl, billet windshield wipers, and a chrome '56 Chevy emblem. Tim's Painting helped Tania with a lot of the body work along with her husband Rob.

Other than the S-10's signature bright orange and burnt orange two-tone paint job, upon closer inspection, you'll notice that there's a clean separation graphic stripe, with air brushed skulls, that keeps the two colors from touching that's painted using graphite and silver. Tim's Painting did all the base painting and pinstriping on the truck and the airbrushed skulls were painted by Dave at Dye Art.

A Colorado Customs steering wheel sets the stage for the interior of the S-10. Further, the 1997 Chevy Blazer seats have been chopped and reupholstered using Katskinz charcoal and orange leather. The door panels also received custom orange leather and a Chevy Blazer center console was modified to house all of the switches and digital air gauges for the truck's dynamic suspension. The stock door handles were swapped out for a set of chrome GMC envoy door handles and various billet accessories dot the rest of the interior, which includes the shifter, HVAC knobs, rearview mirror, and pedals.

The truck sports a Clarion MAX675VD with NAX970 navigation head unit powered by a pair of Planet Audio amplifiers. Speakers in the cab of the truck include more Planet Audio components in the form of 6½-inch separates located in Q-logic kick panels and in the doors. Providing the thump is a set of 12-inch subwoofers mounted in a custom-built enclosure located behind the seats.

Under the hood, Tania installed an Optima battery, Powermaster alternator, and an AEM Brute Force cold air intake. Topping off the performance enhancements is a full one-off custom exhaust that was bent up and stuffed neatly under the bed.

Whether Tania is cruising the streets, showing off her ride, or just sitting in a parking lot, this little bowtie has a lot going for it. We are sure Tania will find plenty of time to get her truck, from a deep GM "blood line", out on a few highways to lay those sparks she so eagerly anticipated during the build!

Shout Out: "I want to thank Tim at Tim's Customs for the body work and paint AND for letting us get in the way and do some of the work ourselves; my little brother Gary for all the preliminary body work done to the truck to make it a decent daily driver; all the guys that came over and helped out - for all hours of the night; and most importantly - my husband Rob - who without, the truck would never be where it is today. He was not only a source of some inspiration and completely supportive, he also showed me how to do what I didn't know, had the faith in me to let me work on the truck myself, and helped me with what I couldn't do alone." -Tania Sabousky
