Danny Rock of Mt. Washington, Kentucky, is the proud owner of this cool-looking 1992 Chevy Silverado Sportside. Danny purchased his truck in March of 1992 and since then, as you can probably already tell, he spent many nights in the garage rebuilding, tinkering, fabricating, and polishing his second love. In fact, Danny fiddled with his truck so much that somewhere along the line it became known as "the other woman."
However, like a lot of custom auto enthusiasts, this isn't the "only woman" Danny has had the pleasure of pampering. Long before his current love affair, Danny along with his son, Brian Rock, have built a couple of other rides such as a 1990 SS 454 pickup and a 1969 Camaro. Eventually his current project, a 1967 SS Chevy II, will also be added to the list of "other women." In view of this, it's easy to understand why Danny feels the way he does about his one-of-a-kind custom pickup!
Beginning with the chassis, Danny and his son Brian replaced the front suspension with Firestone airbags to bring the nose down to ground level. The rear was tweaked and fitted with a 6-inch flip kit and a 4-inch shackle and hanger kit, with Firestone airbags for a 10-inch drop. Belltech Nitro-Drop shocks were placed on all four corners to ensure a smooth ride on Kentucky highways. To complete his rolling chassis, Danny chose 18x8-inch and 20x8½-inch KMC Venom wheels, which were wrapped in Michelin Pilot 225/45/ZR18 up front and 275/35/ZR20 in the rear.
Under the hood, a 305ci Chevy V-8 engine provides the power for this killer bowtie. The engine received a Hypertech power chip, Hypertech power low-temp thermostat, and a K&N filter. A 700R4 automatic transmission was also installed to back the powerplant. With that out of the way, Danny directed the flow of exhaust through Edelbrock headers into a Random catalytic converter and out through a Flowmaster custom exhaust. Also, for instant show appeal, the engine received a ton of billet, chrome, blue and silver paint, along with a mirror mounted under the hood to show off the truck's very clean engine.
The exterior is where a lot of the modifications can be spotted. Danny and Brian started by installing a set of sport mirrors, a bowtie third brake light, billet antenna, V-tech frenched taillight covers, polished billet steps, and sun roof. The stock bumper was switched out for a custom tear drop bumper and a phantom billet grille replaced the OEM grille for a clean custom look. The rear features a roll pan and a relocated tailgate handle that was flipped to the inside of the pickup box, which is topped off by a Gaylord's low profile hard tonneau topper. With the outer modifications complete, Danny tossed his keys to Taylor's House of Color in Louisville, Kentucky, where the truck received a healthy coat of brilliant metallic blue. After the paint dried, the painter finalized the look by laying down an appealing set of yellow to red flames to break up the otherwise plain paint job.
The interior retains the stock radio, but with a few additions including a polished Kenwood amp with 8-inch base tube mounted under a custom built center console. Four Jensen 2-way speakers were also installed throughout the cab to replace the OEM paper cone speakers. A Weld steering wheel takes the place of the stock steering equipment. The seats were ripped out of the cab and replaced with 1985 Pontiac Fiero seats. After these modifications were complete, the truck was driven to Larry Sneed in Louisville, Kentucky, where he covered the entire interior, including the floorboard, in a combination of bone leather and ivory colored tweed. The pickup box also received a matching leather and tweed facelift including the underside of the topper. A large bowtie is embossed on the pickup box wall nearest the cab. Finishing off the interior upgrades billet bright work can be seen throughout the cab.
As odd as it may seem, Danny's love affair with a custom truck actually makes his family ties that much stronger. Along the way, Danny received a lot of help from his son Brian and a lot of patience from his wife. Danny's family, along with their passion for custom autos, were key factors in helping get this project knocked out. As a result, Danny's family is as close as ever thanks to "The Other Woman."
Shout Out: "All work was done by myself and my son, Brian Rock. We have done several projects together, '69 Camaro, 1990 SS 454 pickup, 1967 SS Chevy II is the project we are working on now." -Danny Rock |
