This father and son duo, Clell Reed, Sr. and Clell Reed, Jr., may have different tastes, but as you can tell one dynamic remains consistent... custom. Junior likes full-size trucks that are low to the ground and senior prefers a stretched out chopper.
Junior is a past feature here on ESM and as with all custom projects some things are bound to change while others remain the same. The suspension already sported a ground scraping stance which includes an adjustable Air Ride suspension with a 2¾-inch body drop, but the old plumbing was upgraded to all copper tubing to limit air leaks. In the rear, a Pete & Jake's four-link was installed and a ViAir 450 compressor keeps plenty of air in the 7-gallon air tank.
The truck originally sported a set of 20-inch chrome rollers in 2003, but Clell decided to re-fit his ride with a set of Halo deuces wrapped in Wanli 265/45R-22 rubber. With the combination of big wheels and a ground huggin' stance, Clell's truck really stands out.
A perfect combination of body modifications also add to the overall look of the truck. All of the plastic molding and Chevrolet badging was removed to clean up the body. The door handles were shaved and all remaining plastic pieces were smoothed and painted to match the body. New inner fenders were formed from trailer fenders to achieve a smooth look inside the bed. To further modernize the back end of the truck, Clell installed a set of carbon fiber taillights and the tailgate, along with the bumper, were replaced with a California one piece tailgate skin combo.
On the nose of this pavement laying hauler, an upper and lower billet grille insert and clear corner lenses were added. Under the nose, things are kept simple with a K&N cold air intake system and a Hypertech computer power programmer. A pair of modified trailer fenders were added to keep the engine bay clean. A few pieces of plastic were removed, smoothed, and painted to match the body color, too.
Inside the cockpit, junior pulled out all the stops. The stock upholstery has been upgraded in a combination of indigo paint, tweed, and blue/silver vinyl. The dash was painted to match the exterior and the stock gauge face was replace with a white face gauge complemented by a billet surround. The factory airbag and steering wheel was sent to the trash heap and now a Colorado Custom billet steering wheel rests at the top of the steering column. A custom center console was built and upholstered in blue tweed with 3-D flames. Providing Junior with full control over the radio is an in-dash JVC 7-inch touch-screen TV/DVD/CD head unit. Finishing the interior is a billet dress-up kit, which complements the dash, door panels and column.
Complementing junior's truck is a stretched out chopper owned by Clell senior which is just as nice as junior's ride. Senior's chopper is a 2004 Ironhorse with a bored and stroked engine. A set of Energy wheels wrapped in Dunlop 250 rubber keep this bike on track. The paint scheme gives forward motion and consists of an orange base coat with purple, blue, and white graphics.
The Reeds' rides are considered part of their family and this dynamic duo can often be seen rolling down the road on weekends to various auto shows throughout middle and east Tennessee.
